Training Courses - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What information do you provide for each of your training courses?

Each course has its own web page in our website, and contains the following information:

  • Overview, who should attend, learning objectives, course agenda & schedule, prerequisites, training approach,

examination, competence domains, certification, general course information

Who will provide me information regarding a course I have been booked to attend?

  • This will be the person who coordinates the training event between the training provider, Business Training & Consulting Services Ltd., and your company.

  • We communicate all course information to the course coordinator, and that person sends the information

       to course delegates.

Where are the course venues?

This is determined by your company, but typically the training venue is at your company’s premises, or an alternative place, such as a local hotel or business centre chosen by your company.

Who pays for my course attendance?

Your company typically pays the course fees for the attending delegates.

What time do courses start and finish?

We typically start at 09.00 a.m. and finish no later than 17.00 (5.00 p.m.)

When are courses confirmed?

As soon as your company has paid the course fees, we send a confirmation e-mail with a summary of the course details.

Is there a dress code for classroom training courses?

For on-site classroom training It is typically business casual, or otherwise as determined by your company.

Can I attend any course and take the associated exam?

Assuming you meet the course attendance prerequisites and your company agrees you can attend any of our training courses.

Are there any prerequisites before I attend a course?

  • A general prerequisite before attending any of our courses is proficiency in technical/ business English

      language.

  • However, for some courses there are specific prerequisites that must be met by the course delegates,

e.g. before you attend the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training, you must have completed the Yellow Belt

      training and passed the exam.

Is the course I am booked to attend the right course for me?

Your company has chosen you to attend the course, so, it is highly likely that the training topic is relevant to the knowledge and skills required to perform your current (or next) job role.

Do I need to prepare for the course in advance?

  • If there is a need for pre-course studying, you will be provided with the relevant training materials in advance, so that you will have adequate time to study and prepare for the course.

    • As a general rule, If you do not have the knowledge listed in the course prerequisites, it is strongly recommended that you study and learn the relevant materials in advance to get the most out of the course.

  • There are suggestions of how to do so on the course web page (such as pre-reading) and you can also get in touch with our training department for directions on what to learn.

    • Furthermore, each session is 90 minutes long, so it is recommended that you prepare for the course by at least familiarising yourself with the main course topics.

    • This way you will be in a better position to understand the lecturer’s comments and can ask questions whilst at the course.

  • Lecture notes, in the form of course workbook, will be provided to all delegates prior to the start of the course to enable further familiarisation with the training materials.

What do I need to bring to the classroom?

  • Usually a notepad, pen and pencil for note-taking will suffice.

  • The delegates’ workbook is provided as soft copy, in PDF format, so if you wish you may also bring your

laptop, or tablet to better follow the flow of training.

Can I bring my own laptop to the course?

  • Yes, you can.

  • In some training courses, such as in Statistics, you may be required to pre-install specific software package,

such as Minitab 19, Sigma Excel, or Statistica to be able to perform the course exercises.

  • In such cases we will provide you with the data files that you will need to perform the exercises, and you

should be able to download, e.g. Minitab 19 for a trial period of 30 days covering the course dates.

Is there any “homework” required?

Most courses that are longer than a day require you to study for, on average, 2  hours after the training sessions on

your own time.

  • In this case, the course instructor, before adjourning for the day, may assign you specific tasks, such as revision

of the course topics covered during the day, pre-study of the training topics of the following training day, attempting a mock exam, exercises, etc.

Is there a course exam?

Most of our courses include an exam.

  • Upon passing the exam you will be issued a certificate of successful course completion.

  • If there is no scheduled exam, at the end of the course you will be issued a certificate of course attendance.

How do I best prepare for the course exam?

By studying and revising the course materials and attempting the mock exam, which is included in your course workbook.

Do I need proof of identity before taking an exam?

No, you do not.

  • Because you work for the company that has booked you for the course, it is extremely rare that a delegate may even attempt to commit fraud, by impersonating another course delegate.

  • Proof of ID is typically required for public courses, but we do not deliver this type of training.

How can I take my course exam?

You can take the exam either in the classroom, before the end of the course, or online, within a specified period, after the end of the course delivery.

Who is invigilator?

An invigilator is the person who oversees the delegates taking the exam.

  • In on-site classroom courses, this person invigilating is typically your instructor.

  • If you are taking the exam online, and the course integrity is deemed to be particularly important, you may be required to connect with a service centre, where a "real person" will oversee you taking the exam without “cheating” using a web cam over the internet.

What types of questions are included in the exam?

  • Some exams include one type of questions, where you may have to chose one correct answer between multiple

      answers provided for each question.

  • Other exams may include questions in multiple formats, e.g.

    • One correct answer to be chosen amongst multiple answers provided for each question, or

    • Two correct answers to be chosen amongst multiple answers provided for each question, or

    • You may need to perform a calculation before you chose an answer, or

    • You may have to chose one out of two answers (typically YES, or NO), or

    • You may be asked to provide justification for your answer (typically you answer in free text format), etc.

When will I know if I passed or failed the exam?

If you take the exam in the classroom, and the format is to choose one correct answer between multiple answers provided for each question, the course instructor may mark the exam papers on the spot.

  • In such cases, you may need to wait for a few minutes before you verbally receive your exam result, otherwise,

  • You will  be notified within two (2) working days from the last course date.

What happens if I fail the exam?

You may re-take the exam for a nominal administrative fee.

  • In this case you do not need to re-take the course.

Is the exam score I achieve important?

All course exams administered by us have a threshold, above which you PASS, and below which you FAIL the exam.

  • This is typically set at 70% of the possible max. score, e.g. for a top score of 100 marks you must earn a

minimum 70 marks to PASS and receive your course completion certificate.

  • However, your course certificate will look like all other certificates for the same course, regardless if you just

“scraped it”, i.e. achieved the min. score of 70%, or you “ace'd it”, i.e. achieved the max. score of 100% .

Will I receive a certificate for the course?

Yes, you will, if you PASS the exam.

Will my exam score be shown on my certificate?

No, it will not.

Will I be able to provide feedback after attending the course?

Yes, you will be provided with a link to submit your feedback online.

  • The feedback can be anonymous and is open for two weeks following the completion of the course.

  • We greatly appreciate feedback from all delegates, as it enables us to improve our courses before future delivery.

How can I raise a complaint during the course?

Upon your request for filing a complaint, you will be provided with a link to submit your complaint online.

  • The complaint cannot be anonymous

  • The link will remain active for a period of 14 calendar days from the date of its issue.

What is the difference between being “certified” and being “qualified”?

  • “Being certified” means that you have attended formal training on a specific subject and passed the exam.

    • The certificate reflects knowledge, not experience, in being able to e.g. manage a project.

  • “Being qualified” means that you have been given the opportunity to put the classroom knowledge into practice, usually under the supervision of an experienced Practitioner in a subject topic, e.g. by managing at least two (2) projects where you applied the PRINCE2 methodology.

    • Upon completion of the above projects you are typically asked to present the results to a panel of people, comprising e.g. experienced PRINCE2 Practitioner, and representatives of the business management, such as the project Sponsor.

    • After the presentation, the above panel will decide if, based on facts/ outcomes they feel confident that you may manage future projects without supervision.

    • At this point in time you become, e.g., qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner.

What should I do next, after I receive my certificate?

You should discuss with your Line Manager, or the person who suggested that you attend one of our courses and seek opportunities to practice what you have learned in the classroom by, e.g. participating as team member in a relevant in-house project, where you can practice under the supervision of an experienced Practitioner in the subject you received training.

What is CPD?

  • CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development.

    • It refers to the process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge, and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work, beyond any initial training.

  • It is a record of what you experience, learn and then apply.

  • The term is generally used to mean a physical folder or portfolio documenting your professionaldevelopment       .

  • Some organisations use it to mean a training or development plan, which is not strictly accurate.

  • CPD should be considered as the process of recording and reflecting on learning and development.

How helpful is a certificate for getting a job?

  • The certificate may give you the opportunity to secure an interview with a prospective employer

    • This typically just "ticks a box", but that is about it.

  • Once you are invited for an interview, experienced interviewers will ask you questions aiming to determine if you have both the knowledge AND the practical experience to perform the job role

    • Assume that you will be, most likely, one out of several, …, many? candidates who have applied for the job.

  • If you are successful, you may be “short listed” and invited for a second interview, where you most likely be interviewed by the “specialists” in the job role you have applied for.

    • If you are successful in the second interview, and you fair better than the other candidates in the "short list" it is highly probable that you may get the job you applied for.
