ISO 21502 Guidance on Project Management - Lead Assessor

Overview

​

ISO 21502 provides high-level description of concepts and processes that are considered to form good practice in project management.

 

Projects are placed in the context of programmes and project portfolios; however, ISO 21502 does not provide detailed guidance on the management of programmes and project portfolios.

​

​​The 5-day ISO 21502 Lead Assessor training course enables you to effectively

  • Evaluate a project's performance and determine whether it is being managed based on the ISO 21502 guidelines and best practices..

  • Plan, lead and perform an ISO 21502 assessment

​

The course covers three levels of knowledge and competency, i.e. Foundation, Internal Auditor, and Lead Assessor.

Learning Objectives

​

During this training course, you will explore the different elements of Project Management, including setting up a project, objectives, procedures, performance evaluation, management commitment, auditing, and continual improvement.

Attending the course will help you to:

  • Learn how to assess whether the project objectives have been met

  • Acknowledge the correlation between ISO 21502 and other standards and regulatory frameworks

  • Learn how to interpret the guidelines of ISO 21502 in the context of a project assessment

  • Understand the assessor's role to: plan, lead, and follow-up on assessments and accreditation

  • Acquire the competencies of an assessor to: plan an assessment, lead an assessment, draft reports, and follow-up on an assessment.

 

​​​Based on practical exercises, on course completion delegates should be able to master audit techniques and become competent in managing a project audit program and audit team.

Day 1: Introduction to Project Management and ISO 21502

Day 2: Audit principles, preparation and launching an audit

  • Fundamental audit concepts and principles

  • Audit approach based on evidence and risk

  • Initiating the audit

  • Preparing on site audit

  • Performing the on-site audit

Day 3: On-site audit activities

  • Drafting assessment findings and nonconformity reports

  • Communication during the assessment

  • Assessment procedures

  • Creating test plans

 

Day 4: Closing the audit

  • Closing the audit

  • Evaluation of action plans by the assessor

  • Beyond the initial assessment

  • Competence and evaluation of assessors

  • Closing the training

 

Day 5: Closing the training

Prerequisites

​

Proficiency in the English language, willingness to learn, and open mind to new ways of working.

​

Training Approach

​

The course covers both theory and practice:

  • Slide-based training sessions, supported by examples

  • Preparation for the exam

  • Practice test (mock exam) simulating the certification exam.

​

Examination

​

Upon completion of the training course, you can sit for the exam and become Certified Lead Assessor in ISO 21500.

​

Following are the exam details:

  • Duration             2 hours

  • Format               Open book

  • Nr of questions   60, multiple choice

  • Pass mark          70% ( correct answers).

​

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of a Project Management

  • Project Management Process

  • Fundamental assessment concepts and principles

  • Preparation of an ISO 21502 assessment

  • Managing an ISO 21502 assessment programme.

Certification

The ISO 21502 Lead Assessor certificate will be issued to delegates passing the exam.
