ISO 22000: Food Safety Management Systems - Foundation

 

Overview

 

This one-day training course introduces delegates to the ISO 22000 management system standard (MSS) which sets out the requirements for developing, implementing, and maintaining a Food Safety Management System (FSMS). 

 

The revised standard provides the opportunity for organizations to align their strategic direction and increase their focus on improving food safety performance.

 

Delegates will learn about the standard, which focuses on controlling food safety hazards and ensuring that food, and the related services, are provided consistently and safely, and meet the requirements of the business, its customer and other interested parties, including regulatory bodies in the food management sector.

Anyone involved in planning, implementing, maintaining, or auditing ISO 22000-compliant food safety management systems.

  • Involved in the food supply chain, including producers, processors, manufacturers, service providers, distributers, and retailers.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the training course delegates will have understood the following:

  • Clauses, structure, and key requirements of ISO 22000

  • Importance and benefits of a Food Safety Management System (FSMS)

  • Elements of the FSMS, including policy, processes, procedures, performance measurement, internal audit, management review, and continual improvement.

  • The relationship between ISO 22000 and other ISO standards and regulatory frameworks

  • How to identify and address food safety hazards and risks

  • HACCP principles

  • Concepts, approach, and methods required for effective FSMS

  • The interrelationship between the elements of the FSMS to meet the requirements of internal and external stakeholders.

 

By attending the course, you will understand the importance of Food Safety Management and the benefits deriving from adopting the standard.

  • ​Overview of ISO 22000, including key definitions, and clauses of the standard

  • How the standard aligns with other ISO management system standards, including ISO 9001

  • The purpose and benefits of having a food safety management system (FSMS)

  • Codex Alimentarius

  • Pre-Requisite Programmes (PRPs) with reference to ISO/TS 22002-1

  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Point (HACCP) principles

  • High-Level Structure of ISO management systems standards and how it supports integrated management systems

  • Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle of continuous improvement

  • Risk-based thinking (organisation and operational)

 

Prerequisites

Proficiency in the English language, willingness to learn, and open mind to new ways of working.

 

There are no other prerequisites for this course.

Training Approach

​

The course comprises slide-based training sessions, supported by examples and covers both theory and practice.

 

Examination

​

There is no scheduled exam for this basic level of training.

 

Certification

​

The Foundation attendance certificate will be issued to delegates participating in the course.
