Overview

 

This 5-day training course prepares participants to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS) that complies with the requirements of ISO 14001: 2015.

​

The training is consistent with the project management practices of ISO 10006 and compatible with ISO 14004 and ISO 10012:

  • ISO 10006 Quality Management Systems - Guidelines for Quality Management in Projects

  • ISO 14004 Environmental Management Systems - General Guidelines on Principles, Systems and Support Techniques

  • ISO 10012 Measurement Management Systems - Requirements for Measurement Processes and Measuring Equipment.

 

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of best practices used to:

  • Implement environmental management processes

  • Address risks of environmental impacts and opportunities in environmental protection

  • Achieve balance between the elements for a sustainable development i.e. the environment, society and economy.

  • Analyse data and information to support effective decision-making within the context of the organisation and environmental management 

  • Prepare an organization for EMS certification to ISO 14001.

Day 1: Introduction to EMS, ISO 14001 Standard, and Project Initiation for EMS Development and Implementation

  • Initiating the EMS development and implementation project

  • Understanding the organization and clarifying its environmental objectives

Day 2: EMS Planning and Development

  • Leadership and approval of the EMS project

  • EMS scope

  • Environmental management policies

  • Identification of environmental aspects

  • Risk assessment

  • Definition of the organizational structure of Environmental Management

Day 3: EMS Implementation ​

 

  • Definition of the document management process

  • Design of controls and drafting of policies & procedures

  • Communication plan

  • Training and awareness plan

  • Operations Management

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response

Day 4: EMS Measurement, Continuous Improvement and Preparation for the Certification Audit

​

  • Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation of EMS effectiveness

  • Internal audit

  • Management review

  • Treatment of issues and non-conformities

  • Continual improvement 

  • Preparing for the certification audit

  • EMS certification audit: stages

  • EMS registration

  • EMS certification lifecycle

  • Competence and evaluation of implementers

 

Day 5: Certification Exam.

Prerequisites

​

The following are general prerequisites for attending our training courses:

  • Proficiency in the English language

  • Consideration for other course participants

  • Willingness to actively participate during the training sessions, and an open mind to learn new ways

       of working.

​

ISO 14001 Foundation Certification or basic knowledge of ISO 14001 is recommended.

​

Training Approach

​

The course covers both theory and practice:

  • Slide-based training sessions, illustrated with examples

  • Business cases

  • Preparation for the Foundation exam

  • Practice test (mock exam) similar to the certification exam.

​

Certification Exam

​

  • Duration       90 min.

  • Format         closed book

  • Questions    60 multiple-choice questions

  • Pass mark    70% (42 correct answers)

​

The ISO 14001 Foundation certificate will be issued to delegates passing the exam.
