ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems - Requirements with Guidance for Use

Overview

 

This 1 day course aims to:

  • Enable delegates to learn about best practice for implementing and managing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&SMS) as specified in ISO 45001.

  • Help delegates understand how ISO 45001 is related with other ISO standards, such as ISO 9001 and 14001.

Learning Objectives

 

By the end of the course delegates will have:

  • Understood the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in accordance with ISO 45001

  • Understood the relationship between an OH&SMS, including hazard assessment and management, controls and compliance with, the requirements of different interested parties of the organization

  • Learned the concepts, approaches, standards, methods and techniques allowing the effective management of an OH&SMS

  • Learned how to contribute in the implementation of an OH&SMS as specified in ISO 45001.

 

Also delegates will be able to:

  • Articulate the OH&S terminology

  • Articulate concepts, such as “the process approach” and “the PDCA cycle”

  • Identify the new High Level Structure (HLS) of ISO standards

  • Interpret the requirements of the standard, and how they apply in practice.

  • Appreciate the benefits of the latest version of the standard

  • Understand the relationship between the OH&SMS and compliance with specified requirements

  • Understand how ISO 45001 is linked with other ISO standards

  • Contribute in the development, implementation, and certification, (or re-certification) of an OH&SMS.

  • Appreciate the technical challenges likely to be encountered in implementing OH&SM systems.

 

Course Agenda and Content

Part 1: Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&SMS) Concepts and the Requirements of ISO 45001

​

  • Introduction to Management Systems (MS) and the ISO Management Systems Standards (MSS)

  • Introduction the process approach

  • Fundamental principles in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)

  • General requirements of the ISO 45001 standard

  • Implementation phases of the ISO 45001 framework

  • Continual improvement of OH&SMS

  • The ISO 45001 certification audit

  • Transition from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001.

 

Part 2: Implementation of an ISO 45001-compliant OH&SMS and Certification Exam

​

  • Development of a training and awareness programme and communication about the Occupational Health and Safety Management System

  • Operational management of an OH&SMS

  • Operational control of an OH&SMS

  • Emergency preparedness and response

  • ISO 45001 Foundation exam.

 

Prerequisites

 

Proficiency in the English language, willingness to learn, and open mind to new ways of working.

 

Training Approach

 

The course covers both theory and practice:

  • Slide-based training sessions, illustrated with examples

  • Business cases

  • Preparation for the Foundation exam

  • Practice test (mock exam) similar to the certification exam.

 

Examination

 

  • Duration     45 min.

  • Format       Closed book

  • Questions  30 multiple-choice questions

  • Pass mark  70% (21 correct answers)

 

Competence Domains

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of OH&S Management

  • ISO 45001 requirements for Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&SMS) based on ISO 45001.

 

Certification

 

The ISO 45001 Foundation certificate will be issued to delegates passing the exam.
