ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems - Requirements

​

Overview

 

The 1-day Foundation course aims to:

  • Introduce delegates to the principles and requirements of ISO 9001 (“the standard”)

  • Provide an overview of the stages for developing, implementing and maintaining an ISO 9001-compliant QMS

  • Make delegates aware of the issues and challenges involved in implementing a QMS.

The course provides an overview of the ISO 9000 family (series) of standards, including the following:

  • ISO 9001: QMS - Requirements

  • ISO 9004: Managing for the sustained success of an organization - A quality management approach

  • Members of QMS teams

  • Those involved in QMS implementation, operation, and maintenance

  • Auditors, whose role calls for them to audit QM systems.

  • Senior managers involved in, and/ or affected by, the outcome of QMS audits

  • Those considering QMS certification to the ISO 9001 standard.

 

Learning Objectives

 

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Articulate the new terminology

  • Articulate concepts, such as “the process approach” and “the PDCA cycle”

  • Identify the new High Level Structure (HLS) of ISO standards

  • Interpret the requirements of the standard, and how they apply in practice.

  • Appreciate the benefits of the latest version of the standard

  • Understand the relationship between the QMS and compliance with specified requirements

  • Understand how ISO 9001 is linked with other ISO standards, such as the 9000, 9004, and 19011

  • Contribute in the development, implementation, and certification, (or re-certification) of a QMS.

  • Appreciate the technical challenges likely to be encountered in implementing a QMS.

  • Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and Quality Management (QM)

  • Management Systems (MS) and Management System Standards (MSS)

  • ISO MSS and the High-Level Structure (HLS - Annex SL)

  • Quality Management - definitions and core principles

  • Quality Management Systems (QMS)

  • Other types of MS

  • Integrated Management Systems (IMS)

  • Audit: definition, audit types and auditors

  • ISO 9000 family (series) of standards

  • History and overview of ISO 9001

  • ISO 9001: 2015 revision: Context of the Organisation, Risk-based Thinking, and Leadership

      Requirements

  • QMS requirements: clauses 4 to 10 of ISO 9001

  • QMS documentation structure

  • Mandatory documents of an ISO 9001-compliant QMS.

  • Project management approach and stages to QMS pre-certification

  • Monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of the QMS

  • Management review

  • Internal audit

  • QMS certification: the cycle, audit, and registration

  • Continual QMS improvement.

 

Prerequisites

​

The following are general prerequisites for attending our training courses:

  • Proficiency in the English language

  • Consideration for other course participants

  • Willingness to actively participate during the training sessions, and an open mind to learn new

      ways of working.

​

Training Approach

 

The course covers both theory and practice:

  • Slide-based training sessions, illustrated with examples

  • Business cases

  • Preparation for the Foundation exam

  • Practice test (mock exam) similar to the certification exam.

 

Examination

 

  • Duration: 45 min.

  • Format: closed book, 30 multiple-choice questions

  • Pass mark: 70% (21 correct answers)

 

Competence domains:

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of Quality Management

  • ISO 9001 requirements for Quality Management Systems (QMS)

 

Certification

 

The ISO 9001 Foundation certificate will be issued to delegates passing the exam.
